And expedition was not abandoned but only postponed to next year. Bye. Hillary was in Antarctica in the mid fifties, taking part in a large NZ/UK Government project to set up Scott's Base. The outfit traveled by various means around the continent, including farm tractors to the South Pole. He was very mcuh against the ongoing work to build an 'ice-highway' from the coast to the US National Science Foundation at the South Pole. He was an inspiration to many.
